Overview: We have launched the international findAKUre movement to accelerate the process for finding and commercializing treatments to Alkaptonuria (AKU), the first genetic disease ever discovered, and translating our discoveries to other rare diseases and osteoarthritis. Led by patient group the AKU Society and the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, findAKUre brings together academic, patient, and biotech partners from across Europe (UK, France, Italy, Spain, and Slovakia), the United States, and Canada. AKU is an enzyme deficiency that causes an extreme form of osteoarthritis. There is no cure.
