Overview: In an effort to accelerate AIDS vaccine R&D and overcome the main scientific challenges facing the field, International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) has launched the Innovation Fund to bring new technologies to the AIDS vaccine pipeline. Supported in part by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the fund seeks out biotech companies working outside the AIDS vaccine field in disciplines as diverse as cancer therapeutics, proteomics, and systems biology. It proactively identifies novel technologies and provides proof of concept funding for HIV, as well as access to expertise, infrastructure, and tools that would otherwise not be available. |
