Session 2: Unlocking Data to Drive Discovery Back to the Agenda |
Tuesday, December 14, 2010
9:30 am - 10:25 am
Embedded within each patient is the information, from a unique medical history to tissue, blood and DNA, that is crucial to understanding and managing disease. Too often, however, that information remains locked away and unavailable to researchers. This panel will explore how to engage patients on their terms, the tools that need to be in place to bridge patient care and research (i.e., electronic and personal health records), and how to address and overcome traditional challenges (i.e., privacy, informed consent) that often get in the way of patient involvement in the cure enterprise. |
