Speaker

Benjamin Schwartz, Clinical Instructor of Medicine, Department of Surgery, Columbia University; Staff Cartoonist, The New Yorker

Benjamin Schwartz embodies the fascinating intersection between the dichotomy of art and science. On the forefront of a unique field, Schwartz lives what most would see as a dual life – cartoonist at the New Yorker by day and lecturer and content developer at Columbia's Department of Surgery by night. Schwartz is at the crossroads of medicine and the humanities, and he is focused on merging these fields to better understand and tell patients' stories. Hear him talk about visual storytelling, Narrative Medicine, and how this art could help the next generation of physicians provide better care to patients.
